The management team is focused on the portfolio strategies and is composed of both senior and junior officers as well as the board of directors and external advisors. Back-office, compliance and IT support and development are shared functions and work as a close-knit team.
The board of directors of the fund includes Federico Polese, Carlo Alberto Montagna and Enrico Mela. Together they share the roles of portfolio management and marketing (FP), company management (CAM) and risk management (MG).
Federico was part of the NATO air force as a liaison during the Gulf War between 1990-1991, worked as an analyst in various International institutions before funding Simplify Partners SA in 2008. His investment specialisation covers several areas such as aerospace & defence and other industrial sectors as he managed specialised funds for several years. His initial speciality was M&A and investment banking.
Federico continued his education after the MBA at Bocconi University with regular executive programs at INSEAD. He dedicates his free time to his son, reading and endurance sports.
Federico worked as a member of the investment committee and head of business development for Italy at Schroders Plc from 2005-2008. Over the years he developed in-dept knowledge of the defence and aerospace sector.
Previously he worked seven years for UBS in different roles and, before that, for Arthur Andersen in the M&A division. Federico's academic background is in political sciences with a specialisation in economic history and business administration. He holds an MBA from SDA Bocconi and a speciality in finance from Columbia University. Over the year he continuously developed his training internationally
Lorenzo Codogno was a chief economist and director-general at the Treasury Department of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (May 2006-February 2015). He was in charge of the economic analysis and planning directorate.
Lorenzo held responsibility for macroeconomic forecasts, cyclical and structural analysis on the Italian/international economy, and analysis on European and international monetary and financial issues. He coordinated the technical preparation of Italy’s official economic and financial planning documents, notably the Stability Programme and the National Reform Programme (Document of Economy and Finance).
At the OECD, he was chairman of the Working Party 1 and head of the Italian delegation at the Economic Policy Committee (and the Economic and Development Review Committee (Survey on Italy, May 2006-February 2015). He joined the Ministry in April 2006 from Bank of America where he had worked over the previous 11 years.
Harald is CEO in a major telecom company. Previously he was CEO of Blizoo, CEO of Kabel Baden-Württemberg (3rd cable operator in Germany), CEO of HanseNet (number 4 broadband operator in Germany) and head of the Internet division of Telecom Italia. He also worked for 6 years at McKinsey&Co and held several Board positions including Sky Deutschland, United Digital Group. Harald holds an MBA from INSEAD.
